Sherwin Williams: Thinking in Color Activation - incite*

Thinking in Color was an interactive experience that used an EEG brainwave scanner to generate color animations, influenced in real time by the user’s brainwave activity. incite* (website) brought me on to their team as Touchdesigner programmer. They tasked me with the challenge of taking a design aesthetic that they had developed using other software, and creating an equivalent in Touchdesigner that used EEG brainwave data in real time.

The final program was able to take in and display relative brainwave levels in real time, and used the brainwaves as visual metaphors to generate the onscreen animation, all in a seamless automated package able to be run independently by a brand ambassador with an iPad app. While the animation was running, the program also used machine learning algorithms to derive the “most used” colors on screen, and displayed those colors in a color gradient swatch, which was then also automatically printed out. Additionally, the program was able to record a separate high res recording formatted for Instagram, and controlled multiple LED light fixtures using colors that were being displayed on screen.
