Punchdrunk's Sleep No More - Shanghai

Punchdrunk's acclaimed hit Sleep No More has been running in New York since 2011, based on their original production from 2003 in London. Recently, Punchdrunk teamed up with producing partners SMG Live to mount a new production of Sleep No More in Shanghai. Sleep No More Shanghai opened on December 14, 2016.

I was contracted as Lighting Consultant. As Lighting Consultant, I fulfilled the responsibilities of an Associate Lighting Designer, as well as a Technical Advisor. In a design capacity, I created a light plot that adapted the New York production and served new elements in the Shanghai production, gave detailed instructions on all aspects of the installation, and created cues for all performance spaces across 6 floors. As a technical advisor, I taught the local crews how to handle the technical challenges of immersive theater, including programming and operating a complex show control environment with timecoded cues, creating checking and maintenance procedures to help simplify a complex and sprawling lighting rig, and the unique troubleshooting challenges that arise when the audience is in the middle of the action.
