Overwatch League

For the inaugural 2018 season of Overwatch League, I was hired to be a part of a team lead by Walker Keene, and Azimuth Digital. We used Touchdesigner to create a custom media server system called Payload that controlled the massive scenic LED wall in the Blizzard Arena in Burbank, CA.

The system was networked with multiple GUI control points, as well as multiple playback systems, and integration with real-time data feeds from the game servers, as well as sending Midi control signals to the lighting system to display game progress. The main playback machines were each capable of outputting 6 4K outputs simultaneously from one machine which allowed for smooth playback on the large screen.

My main task was as assistant programmer to Walker, helping to develop and implement new features in Touchdesigner, and interface with the other teams in the studio. I was tasked with managing the day to day operations at the studio, including everything from loading new content, debugging new features, and any troubleshooting needs for the custom system we created. I also completely built out and maintained the GUI control system.

Our work continued when the Overwatch League held the Grand Finals in the Barclays center in Brooklyn NY, a 2 day event that was broadcast to 10.8 million viewers. We adapted the system that was created in Burbank for the even larger screens at the Grand Finals, and created a similar system with multiple GUIs, as well as playback machine for a multitude of screens.
